Local Color 3

I've used black walnut hulls many times to dye with-they are foolproof and give rich warm browns:

It is reassuring to be working with a material I know will be successful. Today I boiled the hulls and am letting the bath sit for a day or two to extract the dye:

Maybe next week's experiment?

Strider brought me a shelf fungus that had fallen off a tree. I have a whole book about dyeing with mushrooms-I'll have to do some research....

(I am the happy recipient of a growing collection of pocket-sized bits Strider brings home from his work in the woods.) Here a little bowlful or my recent gifts:
