I'm excited to be a part of Stacey of Fresh Stitches' Knit and Crocet Design Week. Stacey is a designing and blogging dynamo, and I'm looking forward to reading more about how she designs her crochet amigurumi. For the week-long series, participants are going to design a project from sketch to pattern. Since I'm still working on slipper designs for my book, I thought it would be a fun way to share more about my design process.
Today is all about Sketches. I have an idea for a thin, felted baby shoe/bootie with vintage styling. I'm thinking about incorporating eyelets as a design feature or maybe using needle felting accents instead. I haven't designed many things for babies, and I want to refine my vision for the attributes I'd like the slipper to have.
First, I searched for "vintage baby shoes" and pinned them on my "Shoe" Pinterest board.
(Have to say that I got distracted and "researched" women's shoes for a bit after coming across Trippen shoes, oh my, such amazing shoes!!) Anyway, distraction aside, I made a quick sketch along with some design questions I have not figured out yet-
Tomorrow I'll be sharing techniques I'll use, and I'm going to show my swatching process for felted fingering-weight yarn.
