Free Knitting Pattern: Felted Plant Hanger

I am taking a break from designing knitting patterns to sell and am having fun designing little things that I need and want around my house. I am enjoying using my new potholders and pan handle cozy, and have ideas for some seat cushions and maybe a pair of bookends. Today I am sharing a free pattern that usually lives in my kitchen- a Felted Plant Hanger. Here it is on a big oak tree in our yard-

Inspired by the macrame plant holders that Laura and I made at summer camp years ago, I designed this plant hanger to hang up three small ivy plants. I am looking forward to making one with herbs in it this spring.

This is one of those patterns that I feel embarrassed even really calling a pattern because it's more of an idea or suggestion rather than a complicated design. But I like having three new plants in my kitchen this time of year and wanted to share the idea with you. Here's a detail:

Click here to download the pdf pattern and check out my video tutorial on hand-felting if you are new to felting your knits.

Cool Meghan! I am excited to put some herbs in my kitchen as well. I was just reading a cookbook that had masses of basil recipes, I really miss basil this time of year!

I have a ridiculous amount of basil in the freezer if you are really craving some.

Katie, I,m with you when it comes to bringing green things into the house this time of year. What a good idea. I bet the plants' roots are all happy and aerated in the porous wool.

Meghan, you are so generous. I might take you up on it if I get really desperate.

Mom, I used a lining in the vessels for inside, but am thinking about skipping the liner for outside, kinda curious to see how the wool holds up outside. hmmm, I could see a new series of patterns, free form wool flower pots...

I remember making those plant holders at camp! Men-o-lan, right?

hey- yes, totally Priscilla! I remember being totally obsessed and coming home from camp and making more in our basement. It's so great to hear from you, I hope you are doing well.

I like these. They remind me of coconuts.
