Obscure Craft Book Thursday

Today I'm featuring a recent addition to my library. I found Applied Drawing by Harold Haven Brown at our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

This was published in 1916 (!) and includes chapters like, "General Design Principles", "Pencil Technique" and my favorite-"Nature Analysis and Application to Design".

Analysis of a pine cone:

I love the "decorative treatment and use of insect forms".

There are only a couple of color plates, and of course one of them is a color wheel:

All the colors are so muted and perfect, aren't they?

I'd say this was well worth the $1.00 I paid! (If you are interested, it is also on Amazon here.)
