Placemat Bathmat

We needed a bathmat for our bathroom. Fuzzy things seem to get grungy right away, so I wanted to try something hopefully more sturdy. Laura and I went to Lexington for the day last weekend and I found these water hyacinth placemats on clearance on Target- don't they look knitted? 

I stitched them carefully together using hemp twine.

 

And added it to my bathroom. 

I am not sure how it will hold up, but it was a super-cheap experiment.

What a good idea. I have the worst time with bath mats. Esp because the cats like to hang out on them (what's up with that?). They always look so shabby so quickly.
