Fall weather is upon us. The leaves on the trees are still mostly green, but I've added a layer of wool blankets to our beds and I've been unpacking our warm clothes and favorite sweaters. I've also been knitting. I finally finished Abby's mittens- they are ready to wing their way to Pennsylvania to warm her hands. Julian has taken to them, I may knit him a pair.
I still need to wash and block them, which is good because the left mitten thumb got some pawpaw on it. We went to the creek last week, the boys and I found our first pawpaws! I got a little over-zealous in pawpaw collection and weighed down my knitting bag. I am not partial to them but my little fruit-bat boys love them.
I found a great pattern for a super-cozy, kinda silly hat- Fleeced Earflap Hat by Cocoknits. I've knit another one of her designs before and her patterns are so well designed and well-written, a pleasure to knit. I want to knit one for each of my boys and Laura's boys. Adding the fleece is a bit fiddly but the result is really worth it.
Avery was in a super-silly mood when I was taking these photos.
Maybe it's the hat.
I spent all day today knitting one tiny, special hat. It's the Bonnet by Elizabeth Zimmermann. After knitting chunky yarn and fleece with size 10 needles, it was a jump to move right to size 3's and thin yarn. This is my first EZ pattern, I hope the first of many- what an elegant pattern.
The hat is so tiny and soft, I just love it.
I am sure there will be more knitting to follow, there are lots of people I love who still need winter hats!
